Local Buses – Boston, Cambridge, and Other Urban-Core CommunitiesMassachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Commonly known as the T, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority provides traditional local bus and bus rapid transit service in Boston, Cambridge, and other urban-core communities on over 150 separate routes. Its website provides trip-planning information, including fares and schedules, as well as maps and service updates. It also gives information on the MBTA´s automated fare-collection system, often referred to as the CharlieCard system. EZRide (Cambridge) The Charles River Transportation Management Association (TMA) provides a local bus service called EZRide during weekday commuting hours that connects Boston´s North Station with MIT and other destinations in Cambridge´s Kendall Square and University Park neighborhoods. Logan Sunrise Shuttle The Logan Airport Employee Transportation Management Association (TMA) provides a local bus service called the Logan Sunrise Shuttle during early morning hours that connects East Boston with terminals and other buildings at Logan Airport. Mission Hill Link The Mission Hill Link provides local bus service on weekdays and Saturdays connecting the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston with the Brigham Circle stop on the MBTA´s Green Line and Roxbury Crossing Station on the MBTA´s Orange Line. UMass Boston Department of Parking and Transportation UMass Boston operates free daily shuttle service connecting both its campus and the JFK Library and Museum with the MBTA´s Red Line. Bedford Local Transit The Town of Bedford operates Bedford Local Transit, a dial-a-ride bus service to locations within the town, during weekday mornings and middays. The dial-a-ride service is supplemented by limited scheduled service to shopping centers in the area. Beverly Shoppers Shuttle The Beverly Shoppers Shuttle is provided by the City of Beverly with financial assistance from the MBTA and is operated by the Cape Ann Transportation Operating Company. Dedham Local Bus The Dedham Local Bus is a fixed-route service to locations within the town of Dedham; it operates on weekdays and Saturdays. Lexpress (Lexington) The Town of Lexington operates Lexpress, a fixed-route local bus service to locations within the town and to the Burlington Mall, on weekdays and Saturdays. RailLink (Canton) The Neponset Valley Transportation Management Association (TMA) provides a local bus service called RailLink during weekday commuting hours connecting the Royall Street business district in Canton with Route 128 Station in Westwood on the MBTA´s Providence commuter rail line and Quincy Center and Ashmont stations on the MBTA´s Red Line. Route 128 Business Council The Route 128 Business Council provides local bus service during weekday commuting hours connecting businesses in northwest Waltham and southern Lexington with Alewife Station on the MBTA´s Red Line and Waltham Station on the MBTA´s Fitchburg commuter rail line. Local bus service is also provided during weekday commuting hours between the New England Business Park in Needham and Newton Highlands Station on the MBTA´s Green Line. Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) Provides local bus service in the city of Pittsfield and in surrounding municipalities. The Authority is commonly known as the B. Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) Provides local bus service in the town of Barnstable and other municipalities throughout Cape Cod. The Authority is commonly known as the Breeze. Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) Provides local bus service in the town of Greenfield and in municipalities. Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA) Provides local bus service in the cities of Attleboro and Taunton and in surrounding municipalities. It also provides local bus service within the towns of Plymouth and Wareham. Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA) Provides local bus service in the city of Lowell and in surrounding municipalities. Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA) The MVRTA´s services include local bus service in the cities of Lawrence, Haverhill, and Newburyport and in surrounding municipalities. Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MART) Provides local bus service in the cities of Fitchburg, Leominster, and Gardner and in surrounding municipalities. Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA) Provides local bus service from late spring through early fall in the town of Nantucket. Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) Provides local and express bus service in municipalities throughout the Pioneer Valley, including the cities of Springfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, and Northampton and the town of Amherst. Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) Provides local bus service in the cities of New Bedford and Fall River and in surrounding municipalities. Martha´s Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) Provides local bus service in towns on Martha´s Vineyard. Peter Pan Bus Lines The services of Peter Pan Bus Lines include express bus service connecting downtown Boston with Falmouth and Fall River, as well as Newport and Providence, Rhode Island. This service runs both during commuting hours and off-peak periods (including weekends). Peter Pan also provides express bus service connecting downtown Boston with Framingham that runs only during weekday commuting hours. C&J Provides intercity bus service connecting Boston´s South Station and Logan Airport with Newburyport, as well as Portsmouth and Dover, New Hampshire. Concord Coach Provides intercity bus service connecting Boston´s South Station and Logan Airport with Littleton, New Hampshire, with stops at Manchester, Concord, and other intermediate points, and Bangor, Maine, with stops in Portland and other intermediate points. Dartmouth Coach Provides intercity bus service connecting Boston´s South Station and Logan Airport with Hanover, New Hampshire, with stops at Lebanon and other intermediate points. Hampton Jitney Provides intercity bus service connecting Boston´s Back Bay with Southampton, New York, and intermediate points in eastern Long Island. Fung Wah Bus Provides frequent service between Boston´s South Station and the Chinatown neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan. Greyhound Bus Lines Provides service to destinations throughout North America from a number of stops throughout Massachusetts. Frequent service is provided between Boston´s South Station and New York City´s Port Authority Bus Terminal. Service is also provided to Maine, Vermont and Montreal Canada. Lucky Star Provides frequent service between Boston´s South Station and the Chinatown neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan. Peter Pan Bus Lines The services of Peter Pan Bus Lines include intercity service to destinations throughout the northeast United States from a number of stops throughout Massachusetts. Frequent service is provided along the Massachusetts Turnpike corridor connecting Boston´s South Station with Springfield and intermediate points. Frequent service also connects Boston´s South Station with Providence, Rhode Island, Hartford, Connecticut, and New York City´s Port Authority Bus Terminal. Plymouth & Brockton Street Railway Co. (P&B) The services of P&B include intercity service connecting Boston´s South Station and Logan Airport with Provincetown and intermediate points throughout Cape Cod and the South Shore, including Barnstable and Plymouth.
