Transportation Plan – Overview
OVERVIEW • JOURNEY TO 2030 • PATHS TO A SUSTAINABLE REGION The Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) guides investment in the transportation system of the Boston metropolitan region over at least the next 20 years. It defines an overarching vision of the future of transportation in the region, establishes principles and policies that will lead to the achievement of that vision, and allocates projected revenue to transportation programs and projects that reflect those principles and policies. It also guides development of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which is a short-range program of transportation improvements expected to be implemented during the following four-year period. The Boston Region MPO develops a new LRTP every four years, taking into consideration changing conditions, and forecasts of travel demand and other variables, in the region. Among the variables considered during development of the LRTP are the financial resources expected to be made available for the region; projected demand for transportation services; and regional development, land use, employment, and housing goals and plans. JOURNEY TO 2030 is the current transportation plan guiding investments in the Boston region. It was adopted in April 2007 and amended in September 2009. The next LRTP, Paths to a Sustainable Region, is currently under development and is scheduled for completion in April 2011. Public involvement activities will be held throughout the year, and you are encouraged to submit feedback to the MPO as draft materials are prepared and posted on this website. |
